Metalfilms carries out two types of production: metallisation and glass processing.
The first consists of the metallisation on behalf of third parties of various films such as OPP, CAST, LDPE, HDPE, PET, PVC, PS, OPS, nylon, as well as paper, card, carbon cloth, glass fabric, non-woven textiles and biodegradable film, with thicknesses ranging from 7 to 800 microns.
The most common use of metallised film is in the food packaging industry and in the artistic, paper, construction, clothing and agriculture sectors. Furthermore, it can be found in industries in which it’s necessary to have a barrier against heat, light, gas and steam, and to conserve the characteristics of the substrate.
It is worth noting that the very small quantity of aluminium deposited on the substrates (less than 0.02 microns) considerably reduces the environmental impact compared to the use of a traditional aluminium foil which would be much thicker.
The second manufacturing process consists of the transformation of flat glass. We specialise in the production of small designs and the manufacturing process is carried out to order according to the customer’s drawing, starting with the raw material: large sheets of glass.
Tempered glass produced by Metalfilms is typically used in the industrial outdoor lighting sector where it is required to have maximum weather resistance, mechanical resistance, light transmission and not least, maximum safety in the event of breakage.

History
Metalfilms was established in 1982 by three entrepreneurs. One of whom, Marino Bimbi, had great experience in the high vacuum sector.
The company grew quickly, and in a few years, three metallising machines and three rewinder/cutting machines were installed. The entrepreneurial policy of the partners pushed the company to reinvest profits in the purchase of more and more technologically advanced machines.
In 1991 the company built a new 5000m² establishment where it moved its operations.
In 1997 Marino Bimbi sold one of his important companies in the flat glass for domestic appliances sector and acquired 100% of the shares in Metalfilms to which he dedicated himself full time.
In 2002 the company created the glass division in which small tempered glass was produced. The sector had few competitors so within a few years Metalfilms became a leader in tempered safety glass for the outdoor lighting sector.
In 2005 a metallising machine and a rewinder/cutting machine were purchased. The metalliser was built specifically for Metalfilms as it was required to metallise any type of film, including paper which is difficult to work with, card, fabrics and non-woven textiles. This metallising machine is thus equipped with sophisticated electronic controls which guarantee the maximum standardisation of the production and the on-time control of all process parameters in order to guarantee very high quality and very low waste. The use of this machine permits metallisation of reels of up to 2400mm in width, which is necessary to reduce metallizing costs and therefore satisfy Metalfilms’ clients, who are always at the centre of our attention. The machine is still considered today one of the most advanced on the market. It’s the seventh metalliser purchased by the company.
At the beginning of 2015, Marino Bimbi sadly passed away at the age of 89. The family decided that Marino’s son, Roberto, would take over the running of the company. This choice was dictated by his previous experience in the management of an important company that produced curved, tempered glass for the industrial refrigeration sector founded in 1986, in which he was a partner and director until 2009, when the company was sold. He remained a director until 2015 when he decided to dedicate himself full time to the family business.
Since 2019 the company has been owned by Marino’s children, Fulvia, Tiziana and Roberto.
Metalfilms is more and more environmentally friendly.
Environmental awareness has always been a value upon which the company was founded. Energy saving measures and the correct disposal of waste are integral parts of our management processes.
